Hola, and good afternoon. I’ve been intentionally quiet for the past month because I know there has been so much going on for all of us, especially as our healthcare and education workers and leaders continue facing challenges on a daily basis.
Having said that, I want to assure everyone that the Watauga Education Foundation and all of our volunteer board members are continuing to watch and listen for ways we might be able to help our county schools, teachers and students beyond the ways we already do.
We are continuing to review applications for our annual Price-Deverick teacher scholarships (in conjunction with our friends and partners at BREMCO), as well as for the Kate Swift Reese (KSR) student scholarships. After we review recommendations and vote for approval, we’ll make those selections as soon as possible. Needless to say, the past month has affected all of our schedules.
Our Shooting Stars program would have been this upcoming Friday, and we have so missed getting to interact with everyone. However, we’re trying to create some related visual content to share with everyone online, so stay tuned.
As our dedicated school faculty and staff “return” today, we especially want to thank ALL of them for their dedication, compassion, courage and every form of presence. And let’s not forget our students, real-life “Pioneers” who are having to adjust, improvise and learn in unexplored and uncharted contexts. In a very real sense, it is they who will lead us into the future…together.
